Oleaster

This plant has a dark grey trunk that is cylindrical and misshapen, with a dark and excellent quality wood. At the base it presents some circular structure called "polloni". The twigs and leaves grow around February from auxiliary buds and the flowers and buds begin to bloom from March to April in small clusters at the base of the twigs and leaves. The fruits are olives, fleshy with a single core that contain oil, and reach full maturation towards October to December when they change colour. The growth is continuous and is suspended or slowed down only in extremely unfavourable conditions. Under optimal conditions, it has an extraordinary longevity, which can make it live up to 1000 years. It adapts to many soil types but it is not suitable for excessively rocky and stagnant environments, preferring ventilated areas and sunny climates without excessive changes in temperature or low temperatures. It is not affected, however, by salinity and drought, so it can also be found on the coast. The Oleaster is a protected plant due to its slow growth, it is also popular as a decorative plant and can be found in many public areas and gardens.
