Identification: This is one of the most beautiful members of the family of "Falconidi". It is 38-48 cm long and has a stocky build, with a wingspan of 85-105 cm, weighing 400-1000 g. The female is larger and darker than the male, but both have a shorter square tail than other falcons. Its feathers are grey, although the female is darker. The bird is very fast during flight, it hovers around until it identifies its prey with its sharp eyes, then it dives reaching up to 200 km/h. The hawk flies around cliffs, mountains, hills, rocky open areas, and feeds on small birds, but rarely on small mammals or insects. It is a rare species threatened by habitat destruction and alteration, as well as by the indiscriminate use of pesticides. Degree of protection: Berne Convention, All. II; DIR. CEE 409/79, All.
